Stavros

Stavros is located right on the tip of the peninsula of Akrotiri in a beautiful bay at a distance of 14 km from Chania and is well-known for its beautiful sandy beaches and the clean, blue sea.

Stavros had been used as the location for the film Zorba the Greek as it represented the archetypal sleepy fishing village.

It is not a real village but more a conglomeration of houses built in the last three decades and more recently a fair number of small hotels and apartments.

Today, Stavros beach has been developed from a small fishing village into a tourist resort. The main beach is located east of the village, at the foot of the mountain and next to the picturesque harbor of Stavros village. The beach is surrounded by a circular bay and right next to it you will find an organized and awarded "Blue Flag" beach where you can enjoy the white sand and turquoise shallow waters.

The beach is well organized and all possible services are provided. On the beach there is a canteen, while on the opposite side of the street and in other parts of the village there are taverns next to the sea.

The second beach of Stavros is located north and west of the village, just 200 meters northwest of the central beach.

Stavros area is 25 minutes away from Chania International Airport and 35 minutes from the port of Souda. There is a frequent bus (six times per day) to Stavros from the center of Chania but it is a good idea to have your own car if you want to be able to move around easily.
