Vrysses

The traditional village of Vrysses is nestled inland at the foothills of the White Mountains at 62m altitude and is the capital of the municipality of Apokoronas.

Located on the road which connects the north of Crete with Chora Sfakion in the southern coast, it is just a 35 minute drive to either Chania or Rethymno. Giorgoupolis which is also a well known lively coastal village is just a 10 minute drive.

With a population of approximately 800 people, Vrysses is also renowned for its quality cheese and yogurt production.

Lively throughout the year, it offers almost everything needed such as shops, schools, police station, fire station, post office, tavernas, restaurants, hardware shops, bank, café's, bakeries, town hall and many more.

The river of Boutakas flows through the heart of the village with a very low stream during the summer time, allowing a number of ducks to live at its banks.

The village square and river are surrounded by lush vegetation and huge Plane trees providing lots of shade, the ideal location to cool off during the hot summer months.

Vrysses is accessible via the national road and is surrounded by many small historical villages and a number of archeological sites!
