Xamoudohori

Xamoudochori is a small village about 20 km west of Chania and at an altitude of 110m. The 150 permanent inhabitants are mainly occupied in the cultivation of olive trees and vineyards.

The village offers some stunning views towards the coastline of Platanias as well as towards the White Mountains to the south and is surrounded by endless olive groves and vineyards.

The central church of the village at Xamoudochori is the church of St. Ioannis Chrisostomos, which is celebrated on November 13.

There are no shops in the village, but the traditional cafeneon in the center of Xamoudohori is waiting to refresh you with local beverages and traditional Cretan raki.

The closest (pebble) beach and shops are about 4km from Xamoudohori, a 5 minute drive to Maleme. In Maleme one can find amenities including supermarket, pharmacy, gas station, local transport links, taverns and cafes.

The famous beach resort of Platanias is a 10-minute drive and offers numerous beach activities and a livelier more cosmopolitan atmosphere. Platanias has sandy beaches where you can hire sun beds and do all sorts of water sports.

Chania town is just a 20-minute drive and the airport is 40 minutes away.

There is easy access to the National Road which is only about 10 minutes drive.

Xamoudohori is a perfect base to explore western Crete, its beaches, archeological finds and stunning nature. Away from the crowds of Platanias, it is the perfect place to relax.
