Armeni is located inland from Kalyves. It's therefore convenient for the beach at Kalyves and the main highway.
As you drive through the valley to Armeni, you will pass a lot of really good agricultural land with groves of avocado, orange and olives. 2-3 minutes down the road is Neo Chorio with a few more tavernas and kafenions.
Armeni is a ‘living' Cretan village with all the associated amenities. Armeni has kept the feel of a traditional village and is a very pleasant village to stay, live or just visit. There are a number of great Tavernas, a butcher, mini market, cafes and a souvlaki shop.
As you enter the village from the Kalyves direction, you will pass the village kafenion on your left hand side with many older (male) village residents sat outside sipping tsikoudia or sweet Greek coffee under a huge leafy tree.
In the middle of the village there is a magnificent church - floodlit at nights - large and imposing, giving an air of wealth and permanence to the village. Large plane trees sit at the side of the road in the middle of the village and a river runs through the middle near to the tavernas.
About 400 people live in Armeni permanently. The head town of this small municipality is Kalyves - although unusually, the police station is at Armeni.
