Kyparissos is a small, quiet village located at an altitude of 100 meters and 19 kilometers west of Chania.
The small settlement is scattered in neighbourhoods and its approximately 100 permanent residents are mainly involved in agricultural work and land cultivation.
In Greek a cypress tree is called ‘'kyparisi''. The name of the village actually came from the tall, centuries-old cypress tree that exists in the courtyard of the village church and gave its name to the whole settlement.
The village is located in a rural area, yet only a few minutes' drive from the amenities and beach of Maleme.
