Polemarchi is a lowland village located 23 km west from Chania at an altitude of 80 meters.
The approximately 170 residents are occupied mainly in agricultural activities.
The designation of the settlement comes from a Roman centurion named Polemarchos.
Going to Polemarchi from the main road, will be a chance for you to see the oil mill of the region, the location of Kato Vrissi with the spring water and the old tree near the cemetery of the village. The cemetery belongs to the chapel of St. John, which has historical value and dates from the 13th century.
At the only café of the village, you can enjoy your coffee, taste appetizers and get to know the locals and the Cretan hospitality.
At the top of Polemarchi, there is the Limni hill with the beautiful pine forest and the church of Agia Paraskevi. From this top, you can admire the Tavronitis River, the airport of Maleme, the sea and the green of the olive groves. The unique sunset will be an unforgettable experience for every visitor.
Although there are no amenities in Polemarchi the busy village of Tavronitis with all sorts of amenities and its pebbly beach is just a short 5 minute drive away.
