The village is over 800 years old, and is reputed as having the best climate in the area being 360m above sea level. It is one of the larger villages in the Apokoronas.

Apokoronas Prefecture: (reportedly with 25 churches, mostly in private properties) with approx. 400 full time residents.

Its location puts it midway between Chania and Rethymno, and conveniently close to many other villages and 3 beaches, you have a feel of Cretan life but no more than 20 minutes drive from Georgiopoulis, Almyrida or Kalives beach.
